With an unbeatable location just minutes from downtown Chattanooga and Tennessee's favorable mild climate, Stone Fort is one of the Southeast's premier bouldering hotspots. It serves as the second featured location of the Triple Crown Bouldering Series, a highlight event among the climbing community that tours the Southeast, starting in Boone, North Carolina and concluding in Steele, Alabama. Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that involves scaling a rock horizontally across a route, referred to as a "problem." Although this type of climbing rarely exceeds heights of 3-5m above ground, it incorporates more technical maneuvers that create an enjoyable challenge to climbers of all levels. It eliminates the use of much of the traditional rock climbing gear besides climbing shoes and chalk, as well as crash pads to cushion a potential fall. Originally used by the British in preparing climbers for longer mountain climbs, it has since gained a following by adventure seekers as an extreme sport.
